About this program
Jacobs Research Fund (JRF) offers competitive grants for projects studying aboriginal (indigenous) languages and cultures of the Americas, with three award levels capped at $3,000, $6,000, and $9,000 USD to support consultants, research assistants, travel, accommodation, and equipment. Applicants must submit a completed JRF proposal form and two letters of recommendation as PDF files to jacobsf@uw.edu by February 15; decisions are typically announced by May 1. Eligible projects must focus on indigenous languages and cultures of the Americas; disallowed expenses include researcher salaries, tuition, per diems, food, and institutional overhead. Awardees must sign a deed accepting the award, complete required tax forms, archive project materials with the University of Washington library after project completion, and submit a final report to JRF.
