The Electrochemical Society's John B. Goodenough Award, established in 2022, recognizes distinguished, paradigm‑shifting contributions to electrochemical and solid‑state materials science and engineering—particularly in batteries, solid ion conductors, electrocatalysis, magnetic and narrow‑band materials, and photoelectrochemistry. The biennial award (nominations open March 15–June 15 in even years; presented at the Spring meeting in odd years) includes a gold medal, plaque, USD $10,000, ECS Life Membership, complimentary meeting registration, and requires the recipient to deliver a general address at the meeting. Eligible candidates are those renowned for exceptionally creative experimental or theoretical studies that opened new directions in electrochemical energy storage, electrocatalysis, solid ion conductors/high‑temperature electrochemical materials, magnetic or narrow‑band phenomena, or solar/photoelectrochemical conversion; ECS membership is not required. Nominations must include a completed electronic form, 2–5 one‑page supporting letters, lists of publications and patents, and a summary of professional and educational experience; nominations remain active for two consecutive award cycles and subcommittee members may not submit nominations or letters.
