John F. Perkins Jr. Research Career Enhancement Award

About this program

American Physiological Society’s John F. Perkins Jr. Research Career Enhancement Award provides up to $20,000 to support specialized training, laboratory visits to acquire new skills, or attendance at methodology-focused courses to enhance an APS member’s research career. Applicants must be APS members in good standing for at least two consecutive years and hold a rank equivalent to Assistant Professor or above (U.S. residency not required); funds cannot cover indirect costs, salary, daily per diem, or participant compensation, must be used within one year, are contingent on available funding, cannot be deferred, and recipients are expected to attend the APS annual meeting (travel not provided). Applications are accepted only via online submission and must include a ≤3-page project/course description, ≤3-page research program statement, detailed budget justification with vendor quotes, current and pending support, required institutional approvals or exemptions for human/animal work, letters of support (including department chair and host lab if applicable), CV/biosketch materials, and awardees must complete a short outcomes survey 3–5 years after the activity.
