John O. Bickel Award

About this program

The American Society of Civil Engineers (Construction Institute), with an endowment from Parsons Brinckerhoff, awards the John O. Bickel Award to recognize the best original article or paper on the design and/or construction of a rail or vehicular tunnel, offering a certificate and an annually determined honorarium (cash awarded to the lead recipient when a group is honored). Eligible papers must have been published in an online ASCE journal during the July–June period preceding the award year, and special consideration is given to works on tunnels constructed by the immersed or sunken tube method; nominations are due annually by November 1. Nominations are open to writing teams provided at least 50% of team members are ASCE members, and require a signed cover letter and a copy of the paper as it appears online submitted via ASCE’s nomination form.
