Judith Tick Fellowship

About this program

The Society for American Music's Judith Tick Fellowship funds scholarly research leading to publication on musical topics related to women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, with preference for projects reflecting Tick’s work on women’s music-making, musical biography, and American source studies. Awarded competitively to scholars at any career stage, the fellowship provides up to $1,000 (actual amount varies with endowment interest) to support research expenses such as archival or ethnographic travel, books, and media; no more than one award is offered per cycle. Applicants must be members in good standing of the Society for American Music and projects previously funded by SAM fellowships are ineligible. Application materials include the Society’s application form, a current CV, a narrative (up to five double‑spaced pages) describing the project and need for funding, and a one‑page budget; the recipient must submit a one‑page budget and a final report to the Executive Director within one year.
