About this program

The Kentucky Academy of Science (KAS) Special Research Awards provide one‑year grants of up to $5,000 (with competitive reapplication for a second year) to support faculty research at Kentucky colleges and universities, emphasizing projects aligned with KAS disciplines and that engage undergraduate students. Proposals are evaluated on significance, feasibility, measurable objectives, investigator qualifications, institutional support, and budget cost‑effectiveness, with priority for new investigators and undergraduate‑involving projects. Applicants must be KAS members and faculty at Kentucky higher‑education institutions and submit a 250‑word abstract, a 1,000‑word project description (including student roles and timetable), departmental/college support letter, project budget (faculty salary not to exceed one‑third of requested funds), and a brief CV. Awards are made to the institution for a one‑year period, unspent funds must be returned, and a finalized written report is required at project close for future application eligibility.
