About this program

The Society for Economic Anthropology offers the Kate Browne Creativity in Research Award—a $2,000 cash prize and invited plenary presentation at the SEA Spring Meeting—for unusually creative research designs or innovative communication that advance economic anthropology and have demonstrable social relevance. Nominations are due annually January 31 (submit nomination packet via email to the award chair) and may follow Path 1 (creative research design/methodology that has been used and analyzed) or Path 2 (creative communication of research that is well underway with measurable value). Any anthropologist may be nominated or self-nominate regardless of career stage, citizenship, or SEA membership; individual and collaborative projects are eligible. Required materials are a CV; a three-part nomination statement (100-word purpose, 100-word path identification, 500-word detailed summary for the chosen path); and supporting documents (e.g., slides/scripts for Path 1 or samples of creative communication for Path 2); selection emphasizes relevance to economic anthropology, creativity, timeliness, and demonstrated effectiveness.
