KY INBRE Pilot Project Award (PPA)

About this program

The Kentucky IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (KY INBRE) offers competitive Pilot Project Awards of up to $50,000 in direct costs for one year to support research that will lead to successful NIH R15 AREA or R16 SuRE applications. Funds may cover supplies, equipment, core facilities, limited travel, summer salary, undergraduate research assistants, and partial faculty release time or student tuition, with F&A provided separately. Applicants must prepare proposals according to the applicable NIH R15 or R16 FOA and submit a complete ASSIST or Grants.gov application, including budgets, current and pending support, institutional approval, and required mentor, collaborator, core, and institutional support letters. Required items also include an NIH program officer statement, attendance at a KY INBRE grant-writing workshop, and IRB/IACUC and human-subjects certifications when applicable.
