KY INBRE Research Project Awards

About this program

The Kentucky IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (KY INBRE) offers two-year Research Project Awards of up to $50,000 in direct costs annually ($100,000 total) to help promising early-stage investigators develop undergraduate-focused research programs competitive for NIH R15 or R16 funding. Letters of intent are due December 1, 2026, and full proposals are due December 18, 2026. Eligible applicants are tenure-track or tenured faculty at Kentucky colleges and universities other than the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky who have an established laboratory, preliminary data, undergraduate mentoring experience, and no concurrent KY INBRE award. Applicants must identify an experienced NIH-funded senior mentor, while first-time applicants must consult an NIH program officer and attend a KY INBRE R15/R16 grant-writing workshop.
