The LaFeber-Wood Prize for Distinguished Teaching

About this program

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) awards the LaFeber-Wood Prize for Distinguished Teaching annually, with a $1,000 prize presented at its summer conference, to recognize excellence in teaching foreign relations. Applicants are evaluated on their full teaching record at all levels, with encouragement for faculty in teaching-centered positions and consideration also given to research-intensive faculty. Candidates must submit an abbreviated CV, teaching statement, two professional references, and supporting evidence of teaching excellence in a packet of no more than 50 pages by February 1. Current SHAFR Teaching Committee members are ineligible and may apply three years after completing their service.
