The LaFeber-Wood Prize for Distinguished Teaching

About this program

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) awards the $1,000 LaFeber-Wood Prize for Distinguished Teaching annually at its summer conference to recognize excellence in teaching foreign relations. Applicants are evaluated on their full teaching record at all levels, with encouragement for faculty in teaching-centered positions; current SHAFR Teaching Committee members are ineligible until three years after completing their service. Nomination packets must include an abbreviated CV, teaching statement, two professional references, and supporting evidence of teaching excellence, and may not exceed 50 pages. Applications or nominations are due February 1 and should be submitted to Teaching Committee co-chair Brian Etheridge.
