About this program

The California Wildlife Conservation Board offers statewide funding to acquire real property or property rights for wildlife conservation on behalf of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, or through grants to eligible governmental entities and nonprofit organizations. Acquisitions must involve willing sellers and fair-market-value appraisals, with projects evaluated for biological value and generally requiring 6–12 months for review and approval. Eligible applicants include nonprofits, public agencies, and tribal governments; matching funds are not required but secured cost share may strengthen an application. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with awards typically supporting projects for one year from board approval.
