LIANZA Grants and Awards

About this program

LIANZA (Library and Information Association of New Zealand Aotearoa) administers Professional Recognition Awards, a suite of national grants and annual student awards to support projects, research, professional development and to recognise professional excellence in the New Zealand library and information sector. Awards include Fellowships, Associateships, Award of Professional Excellence, Letters of Recognition (including a Joint Letter for Bicultural Development) and Honorary Life Membership; grants include Rua Mano, Edith Jessie Carnell (biennial, next offered 2026), Ada Fache and John Harris, with student awards for Victoria University of Wellington and Open Polytechnic students — applications are to be sent to officeadmin@lianza.org.nz. Eligible applicants are individuals, projects and organisations operating within the library and information sector, with student awards restricted to the named tertiary institutions. All grants and awards are judged by a panel of up to seven members drawn from LIANZA Council, LIANZA Communities and Te Rōpū Whakahau (with co‑opted expertise as needed); awards recognise completed achievements while grants fund specified purposes, and specific funding amounts and deadlines are not provided on the public page.
