The Louise Seaman Bechtel Fellowship, offered by the American Library Association (ALA) and the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), provides a grant of up to $7,500 for a qualified children's librarian to conduct research at the Baldwin Library of Historical Children's Literature at the University of Florida. The fellowship supports the study of historical children's literature published before 1950, requiring fellows to produce a 500-word report and present three public programs based on their research. Eligibility is limited to current personal members of ALA and ALSC with a minimum of five years of experience working directly with children up to age 14 and a graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program. Applicants must also provide supervisor approval for time off and are ineligible if they are organizational, corporate, or student members.
