Lydia Thompson Grant

About this program

The Georgia Ornithological Society's Lydia Thompson Grant provides implementation-focused funding for projects that benefit the conservation of native or migratory birds in Georgia, including citizen science, public education, surveys, behavioral/physiological studies, management actions, and related outreach. Individual requests should be limited to a maximum of $5,000 (typical annual pool $5,000–$10,000); matching funds are encouraged and grant funds may not be used for salaries, overhead, or indirect costs. Eligible applicants are individuals, clubs, and nonprofit organizations; the program is not intended to support university/graduate research or projects by federal or state agencies (students should apply to designated student grants). Applications may be submitted anytime (decisions within ~60 days) via a typewritten application ≤6 pages including project description, objectives, evaluation criteria, citations, itemized budget, other support, and a brief resume; grantees must submit receipts within 12 months and a final project/results and expenditures report and may be asked to present at a GOS meeting.
