Martin-Baker Research Award

About this program

The Mycological Society of America administers the Martin‑Baker Research Award to provide direct monetary support to early-career mycologists for new or ongoing field-inclusive mycological research in areas related to the work of George W. Martin and Gladys E. Baker. Eligible applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the past 10 years, be within five years of hire into their current position, and be current MSA members or have applied for membership at the time of application; the award targets individuals in small departments with heavy teaching loads. Applications (deadline Feb 1) require an application form, a CV (maximum 3 pages) and a detailed plan of study (maximum 5 pages with a 200–250 word abstract, objectives, methods, significance/preliminary results, budget/justification and timeline); indirect costs are not allowed and funds may not be used for meeting travel. The award is made to the individual (not the institution) and recipients must meet post-award requirements (W‑9 if applicable, biography/photo, an article for MSA within one year, and a detailed final report within two years); decisions are typically announced about 45 days after the deadline.
