Mathias Graduate Student Research Grant

About this program

UC Nature offers the Mathias Graduate Student Research Grant to support field research conducted at one or more of the 41 University of California Nature reserves. Funds may cover field supplies and minor equipment, reserve fees, food and travel, and special logistical costs, but not salaries, conference travel, publication costs, computers, or laboratory analyses; applications are due December 1, 2027. Applicants must be UC graduate students in a master’s or PhD program from any discipline, and proposed research must make significant use of a UC Nature reserve and have required permits and approvals. Applications must include a project summary and three-page project description, CV, faculty advisor recommendation, reserve director approval, and applicable IRB, IACUC, or collecting permits.
