Maurice Ewing Medal

About this program

The American Geophysical Union, jointly with the U.S. Navy, awards the annual Maurice Ewing Medal to a single honoree for significant contributions to original research, leadership, mentoring, service in the ocean sciences, and advancement of ocean technology. Recipients receive an engraved medal, recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, induction into the AGU College of Fellows (subject to three consecutive years of AGU membership or approved exceptions), and two tickets to the Honors Reception. Nominees are typically later‑career, established leaders in ocean sciences; nominations may be submitted by peers or via self‑nomination, but nominators and co‑nominators must be active AGU members and all parties must adhere to AGU’s conflict‑of‑interest and professional conduct policies.
