Maurice Ewing Medal

About this program

Jointly sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and the U.S. Navy, the Maurice Ewing Medal is awarded annually to one honoree for significant contributions to original research, leadership, mentoring, service in the ocean sciences, and advancement of ocean technology; recipients receive an engraved medal, recognition at AGU’s annual meeting, two Honors Reception tickets, and induction into the AGU College of Fellows subject to membership criteria. Nominees are typically later-career, established senior scientists evaluated on their record of research, leadership, mentorship, technological advancement, and service. Nominations may be submitted by peers or by the nominee (self-nomination); nominators and co-nominators must be active AGU members and all parties must comply with AGU’s conflict-of-interest and professional conduct policies, with a submission window noted as 5 January–2 March (year unspecified); inquiries: honors@agu.org.
