Mellon Fellowship of Scholars in the Humanities

About this program

Stanford University’s Mellon Fellowship of Scholars in the Humanities, administered through the Stanford Humanities Center and participating humanities departments, awards up to four two‑year fellowships (with a possible third‑year extension) to support recent PhD recipients in developing as scholars and teachers; fellows teach two courses per year, receive office space and a faculty mentor, and participate in cohort meetings and Center programs. Applicants must have received a qualified PhD within the program’s eligibility window (for the 2026 competition: July 31, 2022–July 31, 2026), may not hold PhDs from Stanford, and may include recent assistant professors, lecturers, or postdoctoral scholars whose work aligns with the year’s designated fields (for fall 2026: Comparative Literature, French and Italian, and Religious Studies). The application deadline for 2026–27 has passed; check back in August 2026 for the next application cycle.
