About this program

Microscopy Today (Microscopy Society of America) runs an annual international Micrograph Awards competition to identify and showcase scientific micrographs and short movie clips that combine scientific content with exceptional composition and aesthetic quality. Entries are accepted in three categories—Published Micrograph (static images first published in the prior calendar year), Open Micrograph (static images acquired by any microscopist), and Video Micrograph (movie clips up to 15 seconds, including reconstructed 3‑D animations)—with first/second/third cash prizes of $500/$300/$100 per category and a community-selected people's choice award. Entrants must be the image creators, may submit up to three images per year (across categories), must provide a signed permission form if copyright is held by others, and note that current editors/editorial board members of MSA publications and current MSA Council members are ineligible; submissions are made via the Micrograph Submission Site and are due annually by March 15 (or the following Monday if that date falls on a weekend).
