Minnesota Long Term Care Nurse Loan Forgiveness Program

The Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Rural Health and Primary Care administers the Minnesota Health Care Loan Forgiveness Program, offering up to $6,000 annually—and up to $24,000 total—to repay qualified educational loans for nurses serving in eligible long-term care and related Minnesota facilities. The application cycle runs November 1, 2026, through January 6, 2027, with submissions made through the Online Grants Portal. Eligible applicants are licensed practical nurses, registered nurses, and students expected to obtain licensure by March 31 following selection, who live and work in Minnesota and provide at least 30 hours per week of direct patient care for a minimum two-year service obligation, with an option to extend for two additional years. Applicants must have eligible, non-defaulted educational loans and may not have received funding through Minnesota’s Nursing Facility Employee Scholarship Program.
