Minnesota Urban Advanced Practice Provider Loan Forgiveness Program

About this program

The Minnesota Department of Health’s Office of Rural Health and Primary Care administers a state-funded loan forgiveness program for psychiatric nurse practitioners practicing in underserved urban Minnesota communities. Participants may receive $15,000 annually for up to four years, or $60,000 total, toward qualified educational loans. Applicants must be psychiatric nurse practitioners who live and work in Minnesota and provide at least 30 hours per week of direct patient care for 45 weeks annually in an urban HPSA, MUA, or MUP, with a minimum three-year service obligation. Applications must be submitted through the Online Grants Portal during the Nov. 1, 2026–Jan. 6, 2027 application cycle; selection is competitive and loans in active default, credit-card debt, family loans, and Parent PLUS loans are ineligible.
