National Poverty Fellows Program

About this program

The National Poverty Fellows (NPF) Program, a federal government–university partnership administered by the Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) at UW–Madison, supports postdoctoral scholars conducting high-quality, policy-relevant research on poverty and economic mobility in the United States. Fellows serve as scholars in residence at IRP and federal partner offices (typically visiting twice per year), are paired with an IRP research mentor and an external policy mentor, and receive funding for conference travel and professional development. Eligible applicants are early-career postdoctoral researchers or recent Ph.D. recipients whose research focuses on U.S. poverty and economic mobility; calls are issued each fall for fellowships beginning the following academic year.
