Neuromuscular Research Grants (Development Grants)

About this program

The AANEM Foundation offers Neuromuscular Research Development Grants to fund exploratory or high‑risk/high‑reward research by mid‑career or established investigators on muscle and nerve disorders covered by AANEM, providing up to $50,000 per year for two years (total up to $100,000, inclusive of indirect costs) plus complimentary AANEM membership, a Muscle & Nerve subscription, Annual Meeting registration when research is presented, and a $1,500 travel award to present findings. Projects must be highly innovative and intended to produce breakthroughs or novel techniques, models, or applications; scientific, budgetary, or effort overlap (>100%) with other support is prohibited. Eligible applicants must hold an MD, PhD, DSc or equivalent with at least eight years post‑degree experience, be qualified as an Independent Investigator within an appropriate institutional research team, have access to institutional resources, and propose research on a specific AANEM‑listed muscle or nerve disease. Applications (Application—Part A and Research Proposal—Part B) are submitted online per the Foundation’s instructions; typical timeline shows LOI Jan 10, full application Feb 28, notification Apr 5, and funding beginning July 1.
