Nicholas J. Higham Prize for Research Impacting Scientific Software

The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), with support from MathWorks and NAG, awards the Nicholas J. Higham Prize biennially to an individual or team whose original, rigorous research in applied or computational mathematics has substantially influenced widely used scientific computing software. The recipient receives a $2,000 cash award, a customized fountain pen, and reasonable travel expenses to the award ceremony; the next call for nominations opens March 1, 2028. Nominees may be any individual or team meeting SIAM’s general award guidelines and must be nominated for a single work or body of collaborative work. Applications require a nomination letter describing the research and impacted software packages, candidate CV(s), and two or three expert support letters.
