About this program

Northern Nut Growers Association (NNGA) offers research grants to institutions or individuals conducting applied research on temperate‑zone tree nuts, supporting topics such as propagation, germplasm and cultivar evaluation, pest management and biology, mechanical harvesting, postharvest handling and processing, orchard care, marketing, and related basic biology/ecology. Awards generally provide up to $10,000 in NNGA funding and favor small, self‑contained projects of up to two years (partial funding for larger projects may be considered); NNGA does not fund work that produces protected intellectual property, exclusively benefits private enterprises, or supports economic development, orchard establishment, or demonstration plantings, and indirect costs/corporate fees are not allowed. Eligible applicants include NNGA members, academics, private individuals, and corporations with the capability to perform the research; full proposals (maximum 10 pages with cover page, rationale, procedure/timetable, facilities/personnel, and detailed budget) are due June 30 (optional one‑page pre‑proposal by April 30 for feedback) and should be emailed to Greg Miller.
