The Norman and Laura Graebner Award

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) offers the Norman and Laura Graebner Award biennially, including a $2,000 prize, to honor a senior scholar’s lifetime contributions to the historical study of U.S. foreign relations and international affairs through scholarship, teaching, and/or professional service. Eligible nominees may be academic historians or other distinguished scholars of international affairs whose careers demonstrate excellence from a historical perspective. Nominations, including self-nominations, must consist of a detailed letter covering the candidate’s biography, major scholarly works, teaching and career achievements, and professional service, and must be submitted to the Graebner Award Committee by February 1, 2028.
