NZFSS Early Career Researcher Award

About this program

The New Zealand Freshwater Sciences Society (NZFSS) offers the biennial NZFSS Early Career Researcher Award to recognise outstanding freshwater research by early-career scientists; the recipient receives NZ$2,000, complimentary conference registration, up to NZ$1,000 toward travel/accommodation, and is expected to present a plenary at the NZFSS annual conference on work conducted since graduating. Eligible applicants are current, non‑student NZFSS members with at least two years’ membership (may include prior student membership), who are New Zealand residents/citizens or completed their most recent degree at a New Zealand university, and who graduated no more than eight years prior to the closing date (parental leave excluded). Applications or nominations must include a nomination letter/research summary (max 2 pages), a CV (max 4 pages), three post‑graduation publications (no more than one from degree work), and contact details for two referees; recipients are selected by the NZFSS Executive Committee, which may withhold the award if no suitable candidate is identified.
