OCIO Biodiversity Genomics Postdoctoral Fellowship

About this program

The Smithsonian Institution’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) Data Science Lab offers a one-year (renewable) Biodiversity Genomics Postdoctoral Fellowship to support data-intensive research in biodiversity genomics and machine learning applied to digitized museum collections and archives; fellows may propose independent projects or join existing collaborations and receive a $60,000 stipend plus $5,000 for health insurance and a $5,000 research allowance. Fellows have opportunities to become certified Carpentries instructors and to teach genomics and data science skills as part of Smithsonian training programs. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a biological or computational discipline, demonstrate a strong publication record and ability to conduct independent research, and have proficiency in genome assembly, annotation, phylogenomic methods and a programming language such as Python; experience with high-performance computing clusters is desirable.
