About this program

The Office of Discovery and Translation (ODAT) within the University of Minnesota Clinical and Translational Science Institute provides translational funding, expert advisory support, and collaborative project management to help faculty advance innovations—devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, software, service models, copyrighted content, and education technology—toward real‑world impact. ODAT prioritizes projects that have an identified solution at the solution design and testing stage and accepts applications year‑round with scheduled 2026 submission dates of 2026‑01‑31, 2026‑05‑31, and 2026‑09‑30 (with corresponding review and decision windows). Eligible applicants are University of Minnesota faculty working on innovations addressing unmet human health needs; ODAT has supported 190+ projects, awarded over $19M since 2012, and helped generate 38 licenses and 16 startups, though individual award amounts are not posted.
