Outstanding Animal Welfare Presentation Award (AAAP)

About this program

The American Association of Avian Pathologists (AAAP), with funding from the families of Drs. Kate Barger and Ken Opengart, presents the Outstanding Animal Welfare Presentation Award to the most outstanding animal welfare oral presentation at the AAAP annual meeting; the winner receives a $500 honorarium, a plaque, and recognition at the awards luncheon. Eligible applicants are authors of abstracts submitted to the AAAP annual meeting that are selected for oral presentation, with eligible abstracts identified by the AAAP program chair, co‑chair (chair‑elect), and secretary. A five‑person ad hoc committee (2–3 AAAP Awards/Animal Welfare Committee members and 3–4 ACPV members) judges presentations on originality, content and clarity, and contribution to improving poultry welfare or providing preventive/corrective solutions; submissions are due February 1 annually and an individual may not win more than once within a two‑year period.
