About this program
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) offers the Outstanding Projects and Leaders (OPAL) Awards to recognize living civil engineering leaders for lifetime achievement, leadership, and excellence in construction, design, education, government, or management. Up to five recipients are selected annually and receive a trophy at the ASCE Convention. Nominees need not be ASCE members but must demonstrate significant long-term contributions; current Board of Direction members and past ASCE presidents are ineligible. Nominations are limited to two categories and must include a cover letter, signed form, two reference letters, and curriculum vitae in a package of no more than 12 pages, submitted electronically by June 1.
