Palaeontological Association Research Grants

About this program

The Palaeontological Association offers Research Grants of up to £10,000 to support single palaeontological research projects or proof-of-concept studies (field-based work permitted where scientific objectives and outcomes are clear), with preference for single-purpose awards rather than top-ups; investigator salary costs are only considered in exceptional cases and, if awarded, all legal and financial liability rests with the applicant. Proposals must align with the Association’s charitable aims and are intended to support work that could underpin future national funding applications. Applicants must be members of the Association and will normally hold a PhD with a proven track record as independent investigators; current PhD students are ineligible and preference is given to those who have not previously held an award. Awardees are expected to engage appropriately with local collaborators, address relevant ethical considerations, and submit a final report with receipted accounts for review (the report will be published in the Association Newsletter).
