Phillip R. Hoffman Award

Offered by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Phillip R. Hoffman Award (established 1987) recognizes original papers that advance grid energy storage technologies—including pumped storage, batteries, flywheels, compressed air, hydrogen storage, fuel cells, and emerging solutions—and presents the lead author with a plaque and an honorarium (amount set annually) while coauthors receive certificates. Eligible papers must be original and appear online in an ASCE journal during the July–June period preceding the award year. Nominations may be submitted by any nominator via the ASCE nomination form and must include a signed cover letter, a copy of the paper as it appears online, and a completed contributing-authors list; ASCE membership is not required. The Energy Division Executive Committee reviews eligible papers and selects a nominee for final action by the ASCE Board of Direction; the listed nomination deadline is November 1 (no year specified).
