Pilot Translational Science & Mentored Science Grant Program

About this program

Offered by the Center for Clinical and Translational Science & Training (CCTST), the Pilot Translational Science & Mentored Science Grant Program funds one‑year projects that move laboratory and preclinical discoveries toward human studies and supports the development of new translational cores; a community‑engaged pilot track is also available. Two mechanisms are offered: a Translational Science Grant (TSG) for established investigators and a Mentored Translational Science Grant (MTSG) for new/early‑stage investigators (MTSG requires a mentor’s letter and a detailed training plan); both provide up to $50,000 in direct costs for one year and exclude applicants with more than $500,000 in total current direct cost funding. Eligible PIs or Co‑Is must hold or expect to hold a faculty appointment (≥80% FTE) at the Academic Health Center (UC, UCMC, CCHMC, VAMC) or UC West campus and must be CCTST members. Priority is given to projects nearest to preclinical/early clinical development, cross‑disciplinary or inter‑institutional collaborations, proposals likely to generate preliminary data for extramural funding or intellectual property, and community‑engaged translational work.
