Professor Hering Memorial Research Fund (BENHS)

About this program

The British Entomological and Natural History Society administers the Professor Hering Memorial Research Fund to support entomological research—especially on leaf miners, Diptera (Tephritidae and Agromyzidae), microlepidoptera, and broader entomology. Awards typically do not exceed about £600 (2026) and may cover travel, fieldwork, equipment, study of collections, and exceptionally publication costs; research need not be limited to the British Isles and work linked to UK recording schemes is welcomed. Applicants may submit only one application per research project per year and must provide a completed application form plus a brief research outline (maximum 300 words). Successful recipients must submit an article to the Society’s journal and/or present a poster at the Society’s Members Day or Annual Exhibition.
