The British Entomological & Natural History Society (BENHS) offers annual Professor Hering Memorial Research Fund awards—small research grants unlikely to exceed £600 in 2026—to support entomological research, particularly on leaf miners, Diptera (Tephritidae and Agromyzidae), microlepidoptera and general entomology. Funding may cover travel, fieldwork expenses, equipment, study of collections and, exceptionally, publication costs; projects are not restricted to the British Isles but those with demonstrable relevance to the British fauna or links to UK recording schemes are welcomed. Applicants must submit a completed application form and a brief research outline (maximum 300 words); only one application per research project is accepted per year and the stated closing date is 30 April annually, with awards announced at the end of the following month. Successful applicants are required to submit an article to the Society’s journal and/or present a poster at the Society's Members Day or Annual Exhibition.
