Proposition 1 – Water Recycling

The California State Water Resources Control Board offers Proposition 1 Water Recycling funding to support construction projects that beneficially reuse treated municipal wastewater and augment California’s freshwater supplies. Eligible activities include recycled water treatment, storage, distribution, pumping, groundwater recharge, indirect potable reuse, and surface water augmentation; grants reimburse 35% of eligible construction costs, up to $15 million per project, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis through June 30, 2027. Eligible applicants include California local public agencies, qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofits, public utilities, mutual water companies, and federally or non-federally recognized tribes listed by the Native American Heritage Commission. Applicants generally must provide at least a 50% local cost share, although this requirement may be reduced for qualifying disadvantaged communities; operation and maintenance costs are ineligible.
