About this program

American Water Works Association offers the Public Communications Achievement Award, a recognition (no monetary prize) honoring individual members and AWWA member utilities that develop sustained public outreach programs and integrate public affairs into utility planning and management, with recipients expected to collaborate with AWWA on publicity or communications. Awards are given separately to individuals and utilities across three service-connection size categories (<5,000; 5,000–25,000; >25,000), with a maximum of one merit-based award per category each year for programs ongoing or completed within the 24 months prior to application. Individual nominees must be AWWA members with at least three years in the water profession, have been employed by the represented utility within 12 months of application, and be nominated by a utility member, another organization, or an AWWA section; utility nominees must be AWWA member utilities demonstrating documented impact, planning, and integration of outreach. Nominations require a completed form, an overview (up to five pages) of goals/strategies/results, supporting samples and a bio/utility description with photo; submissions are due to AWWA by November 1 for full consideration and winners are announced at AWWA’s Annual Conference and Exposition.
