Public Engagement Grant

About this program

The Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour (ASAB) Education Committee offers Public Engagement Grants of up to £2,000 to support innovative outreach activities that communicate the science of animal behaviour to young people and/or the general public (e.g., science-fair stands, school visits, museum workshops, local talks). Applications are judged on quality, relevance and likely impact and must clearly describe the event, the specific animal behaviour topics to be communicated, the benefits of public engagement, and include a full cost breakdown and justification; if a new replicable activity is developed an Activity Pack (how-to guide, photos, background information and equipment list) must be supplied after the event, and successful applicants must provide a short report and photos for the ASAB newsletter. Individuals and organisations (researchers, schools, museums, libraries, community groups) may apply and both members and non-members are eligible, but applicants must be based within ASAB’s geographical area (applicants in the Americas are not eligible); the committee does not fund activities involving handling of live animals, work that contributes to undergraduate/postgraduate degree requirements, or participation in larger projects/expeditions. Applications are submitted via the provided form emailed to education@asab.org and are considered at Education Committee meetings with discussion deadlines of 1 April and 1 October.
