About this program

The Royal Anthropological Institute offers an annual small grants scheme to support individual research in biological anthropology—with preference for human population biology, human genetics, human ethology and palaeoanthropology—and awards of up to £1,500 paid at the start of fieldwork (annual deadline 31 March). Grants are not available for undergraduate fieldwork or to applicants who already hold a doctorate, and do not fund library research, university fees, or subsistence at the applicant’s home institution; joint projects are not funded (an individual on a joint project may apply only if the project leader holds a PhD). Applications must be submitted as a PDF to admin@therai.org.uk, with referees sending a separate PDF reference directly to the Assistant Director (Administration); successful applicants must submit an interim fieldwork report and a final report, and Trustees may seek repayment if an adequate final report is not provided.
