About this program

The Great Plains IDeA-CTR Research Scholars Program, building on UNMC’s Mentored Scholars resources, provides integrated education, training, mentorship and pilot funding to develop clinical, clinical-translational, and community-translational investigators into independent researchers and leaders. Eligible applicants are full‑time faculty at participating institutions (preferentially Assistant Professor; MD, PhD or equivalent), U.S. citizens or permanent residents eligible for NIH funding, with an established relevant research focus but without prior NIH R01 or equivalent funding and not currently on a mentored K award or serving as a funded COBRE/INBRE investigator; past PD/PIs of R03, R21, R36 or SBIR/STTR awards remain eligible. Scholars must commit at least 50% effort, complete required CTR leadership and responsible-conduct training, maintain an individualized development plan and active, monitored mentoring, submit semiannual progress reports, attend network seminars and meetings, and aim to submit an R01, K, or equivalent extramural grant within two to three years.
