Seger Project Grants

About this program

The American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) offers Joe D. Seger Project Grants of $2,500 each to support ASOR‑affiliated archaeological excavation projects—especially newer or smaller projects or discrete components of larger projects—with applications due 23 February 2026 (ASOR plans to award two grants in 2026). Applications must be submitted by project directors of ASOR‑affiliated excavations; only one application per project may be funded in a given year, and preference is given to PIs who have secured matching funds (typically $2,500 or more) and to projects that have not received an ASOR Dana, Gold, Harris, or Seger grant in the past three years. Awards pay direct project expenses only (no indirect costs or overhead), are not intended to fund travel for student volunteers or junior staff, recipients may receive a Form 1099, and ASOR may not offer Seger grants in 2026 if fieldwork cannot proceed (affected applicants would need to reapply in 2027).
