SfAA/AAA Margaret Mead Award

About this program

The American Anthropological Association and Society for Applied Anthropology jointly offer the Margaret Mead Award, including a plaque and stipend, to recognize a younger scholar whose book, film, monograph, service, or other accomplishment makes anthropological research meaningful to a broad public. Contributions are evaluated for intellectual quality, clarity, and the breadth and depth of their impact beyond anthropology. Nominees must have received their PhD after January 1, 2014 and be clearly associated with anthropological research or practice. Applications must include a nomination letter, curriculum vitae, two recommendation letters documenting the accomplishment’s public impact, and four copies of the book or film by February 15, 2026.
