Sheila Suen Lai Research Grant

About this program

The Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA) offers the Sheila Suen Lai Research Grant, a $1,000 award to support CALA members conducting research or research-related activities that contribute to library and information science and relate to Chinese American librarianship. Eligible uses include conducting research, attending research-focused conferences/workshops, hosting research programs, or assisting in research writing; funds may not cover personal expenses or general professional association conferences such as ALA or CALA. Applicants must be CALA members in good standing for at least one year, hold a master’s degree in library and information science, be employed in a professional-level position, and submit a cover letter, a proposal (≤5 pages), a CV, and two reference letters; prior CALA awardees in the same year are ineligible. Awardees must maintain CALA membership for five consecutive years, submit a final report within one month of project completion, present at CALA meetings, volunteer for committees, acknowledge CALA support, and will receive funds after meeting these obligations.
