SIGMOD Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award

About this program

ACM SIGMOD awards the Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award annually (when at least one qualified candidate exists) to honor innovative, highly significant contributions of enduring value to the development, understanding, or use of data systems; the prize is a plaque plus a $10,000 honorarium. Eligible candidates include anyone except current elected SIGMOD officers (Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer) and members of the SIGMOD Awards Committee, and innovations already honored by a major ACM award are disqualified; a candidate may be considered for multiple awards only for distinct innovations. Nominations (no self‑nominations) may be made by anyone in the field and must include the nominee’s CV, a proposed citation (≤25 words), a 100–250 word description of the innovation, a detailed justification, and up to three supporting letters providing additional factual information; the Awards Committee may also identify candidates, reconsider nominations from the prior two years, and may select zero or more winners.
