SMST Founders’ Grant

About this program

ASM International’s SMST Affiliate Society, endowed by Dr. Tom Duerig, awards the biennial SMST Founders’ Grant: a $50,000 research award to seed novel research that expands the understanding and applications of shape memory alloys. The grant is presented every two years at the SMST conference, where the new recipient is recognized and the previous recipient reports on their progress. Applicants must propose promising, novel research focused on shape memory alloys; selection is made by a panel including Dr. Duerig, two SMST executive committee members, and the Executive Director of the ASM Materials Education Foundation.
