The South Dakota Office of Rural Health offers a J-1 Visa Waiver Program, providing an opportunity for foreign physicians to work in underserved areas of the state. This program aims to address the shortage of medical professionals in rural South Dakota by attracting and retaining physicians through a 3-year service commitment.

Eligible applicants must be foreign physicians with a valid J-1 visa, and they are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of $200. All specialties are welcome to apply, and interested candidates should submit their applications to the South Dakota Department of Health.
