Species Conservation Award Program (SCAP)

About this program

The American Livebearer Association (ALA) administers the Species Conservation Award Program (SCAP) to conserve endangered and hobby livebearer species, populations, strains, and morphs by coordinating breeder networks, maintaining public and confidential species/breeder lists, and incentivizing long‑term maintenance and distributions through a points‑based awards system. Participation and access to breeder contact information require ALA membership; non‑members may view the public species list but must join to participate in distributions or receive contact details. Applicants must submit completed SCAP inventory forms (annually or more often as desired), document distributions to ALA members to earn points, and comply with species validation rules (California Academy of Sciences Catalog of Fishes; Goodeid Working Group for goodeids); the SCAP committee’s determinations are final.
